SYDNEY
The cheapest flight out of China was to Sydney, so I didn’t give a second thought and just booked it. As I arrived in Sydney I realized that I'd be spending NYE in Sydney, what was one of the points on my Bucketlist – Lucky Me!
Sydney is a backpackers Paradise and you'll find a lot of Koreans living there. I actually managed to practice my Korean and get treated to Samgyeopsal ^_^
Anyways, I had a great time in Sydney, exploring Art Galleries, different Beaches and connect with all kind of people I met in the Hostel. If you are planning to travel to Australia be assured to make a lot of friends right up on arrival. So don't worry if you haven't made any plans to travel the country, there are people looking for travel buddies or selling their car, which you can buy with your buddies and sell it after your Road Trip!
I liked Sydney a lot, but unlike Melbourne and Perth, the city center seems narrow - I call such cities "unphotogenic". Besides that, Sydney is beautiful and has many things to offer.
BARANGAROO
Visit the SYDNEY OBSERVATORY and walk to the BARANGAROO RESERVE, where you find a beautiful green spot with view on the HARBOUR BRIDGE. Stroll along the KING STREET WHARF, where you will find countless restaurants and also the SEA LIFE AQUARIUM. If you want to go further you find the DARLING HARBOUR and the giant HARBOURSIDE SHOPPING CENTRE.
ART
Visit CARRIAGEWORKS to see astonishing art works and also a farmers market. If you crave for Ice Cream the famous CICCONE & SONS isn’t far away and if your heart isn’t satisfied with the art works you can visit the WHITE RABBIT GALLERY, which is for free and shows a collection of modern Asian art.
SHOPPING
Spend a day in CHINATOWN and HAYMARKET, where the famous PADDYS MARKET is, which offers fake bags, shirts, watches, caps and so on. Once you make up your mind, whether or not to shop or not, you can make your way back on the GEORGE STREET and walk back to the city center.
After NYE there is Boxing Day, what means SALE SALE SALE! There are countless stores along George Street and Pitt Street. Make sure to visit the famous TOWN HALL, an old building with luxury stores hidden inside. Once you have enough of shopping you can take a break at the beautiful HYDE PARK behind the city center or visit the ART GALLERY OF NEW SOUTH WALES.
POOL LIFE
There are several pools right next to the ocean, what I, frankly, don't really understand >.< I mean there is a huge puddle of water right next to you! Anyways I haven't seen this before so I made sure to check the hype out. It's basically just one huge pool party, bikinis, hot bodies, you know..that kinda stuff.
BEACH LIFE
You can’t miss out on the famous, and very crowded, BONDI BEACH. There is actually a walk called the COOGEE TO BONDI WALK, where you can stroll along the different Bays until you reach Coogee or Bondi. Make sure to eat a FROYO or an ICE CREAM at BEN & JERRY’s at the Campbell Parade Street behind the BONDI PARK. If the beach is to crowded, you can find a little less crowded spot if you continue walking straight after the NORTH BONDI CHILDREN's POOL. Can you find the ABORIGINAL ROCK ENGRAVINGS?
Make sure to catch the view from the FLAT POINT and BEN BUCKLER POINT with a beer in the hand.
WATSONS BAY
A beautiful getaway about 1h30 by bus from the city center is the WATSONS BAY with the HORNBY LIGHTHOUSE at the cape. The Bay is a nice Sunset Spot and there’s a famous BURGER SHACK just like a lot of green spots to have a nice, relaxed day at the Beach. If you are up to a little stroll you can make your way to the PARSLEY BAY BEACH and continue to the SHARK BEACH and make hold at the beautiful MILK BEACH.
