About ME

Hi!

I'm Mara, thanks for visiting my blog! I will be traveling around the world for the next years and explore amazing places in different countries! I am always seeking Adventures, Good Food, Martial Arts Experiences, Unique and sometimes Weird Stuff. \(^o^)/

BARCELONA

Barcelona is a definite must see in Europe!

It's a colorful and lively city with many things to discover. We went during the Easter break for 4 days which was just fine. I guess if you would like to visit all or most of the museum, you could plan a longer stay. We spent one day in the PortAventura Adventure Park, which was totally worth our time - as you might know, I just can't miss an Amusement Park ^.^

Before I start today's To Do List, I would like to give you a very important advice:

!WATCH YOUR THING!

A lot of people warned me to mind my belongings because thieves in Barca are very cunning. I was like; yes yes of course...haha, I just can laugh and hit my palm against my forehead the same time.

My phone was stolen right out of my jacket on the very first day. And because I'm one of those people thinking a portemonnaie is so out of time, I had my bank, insurance and identity card inside the phone case. Yeah...I will totally rethink that attitude towards portable money pockets >.<

The funny thing is; when we were at the airport for departure, my best friend forgot her phone on the floor while searching something in her luggage. And some cute old couple brought it back to her! She's normally the clumsy one...not me! Yeah...I will totally rethink that attitude towards myself again.

Well then; just let everything unnecessary in the hotel and bring a clever day bag with you. Down below I will attach a few bags, especially recommended by my friend. I guess I know what my birthday gift will be >.<

Now, let's get into it!

Book a HOTEL or AIRBNB stay in the CENTER. We actually wanted to purchase a Barcelona Card for the Public Transport, but we ended up buying a ticket of ten. Where from I used 2 before it was stolen, because I left in in my phone case, ugh! So we used hers for the rest of the stay, which was just right because...

...you should EXPLORE THE CITY BY FOOT. Get a map, we picked ours up on the PLACA DE CATALUNYA from the sightseeing bus stop. Luckily we walked so much, because the metro or bus station were not really marked on this map. Perhaps you can get one at your hotel. Anyway, we made more than 25'000 steps per day! And this on vacation!

There is this cool HEALTH APP on the iPhone, (assumed it wasn't stolen - ugh.) which shows the amount of steps you've done. Walking is healthy and you can...

...EAT A LOT! Spanish food is delicious and there are so many things you really have to try! Countless restaurants are on almost every corner from Asian to American to European, but don't waste your appetite on this and DISCOVER THE SPANISH CUISINE! OLA!

You can grab your food at the famous LA BOUQUERIA food market. Or, if it's too crowded, along the shore or in the Barceloneta quarter. For dinner visit a Spanish PUB, enjoy the MUSIC and eat some TAPAS. Get the "Spanish Feeling" accompanied by the voice of Enrique Iglesias (which will forever remember me of the PingPong Song ^.^)

Try PAELLA, TORTILLA, ALL SORTS OF EMPANADAS and of course SANGRIA!

It's vacation, people actually already enjoyed huge buckets of beer along the La Rambla in the morning - so no remorse or second thoughts about drinking during the day!

(tip: find restaurant discounts)

Grab a CERVEZA and hang out at the BEACH. After strolling through the city the whole day it's a perfect finale. There are artists, strange buildings and even some surfers. You can also start your NIGHT LIFE from there, because most of the clubs are in the BARCELONETA area.

SHOPPING - yes, I normally don't like it, but when you're with the right person it can be fun! And I think Barcelona has one of the largest Shopping streets I've seen so far. Maybe it just felt like that, because we were up all day. Starting from PASSEIG DE GRACIA, walking towards a high fashion street with all the big ones LV, Kenzo, Dior, Chanel, really just all of them. There is also the GAUDI Building, the CASA MILA. We took a left turn on the AVINGUDA DIAGONAL. I tell you the shops are endless.

That was one of the times we took the Bus back to our hotel >.<

(tip: reserve a ticket for the Casa Mila)

GET LOST IN THE STREETS OF BARCA!

Walk down the LA RAMBLA starting form the PLACA DE CATALUNYA down to the PORT. On the right side you can find PLACA REIL or a little bit hidden JARDI DE LA CASA IGNACIO PUIG and if you take some turns you'll find yourself in the GOTHIC QUARTER. At the La Rambla Street there's also the BOQUERIA MARKET on the left, and two streets down there's the OLD CHINA QUARTER. Right at the beginning we stumble across a Bubble Tea Shop \^o^/.

We just wandered around in the quarter with a curve back to the port. On the way we found some pretty cool STREET ART.

(tip: take a guided tour)

Enjoy the PARC DE LA CIUTADELLA close to the PICASSO MUSEUM and walk towards the ARC DE TRIOMF. You can also rent cute bikes or a tandem, if your really romantic >.<

It's a nice park to hang out for a moment. In front of the Arc de Triumpf are a lot of artists, balloon humans and of course the bubble guys can't be missed! You can walk to the LA SAGRADA FAMILIA or take the metro. This is a huge and very impressive building! The crowd in front was also huge ^.^

(tip: get a fast track ticket)

Also the PARK GUELL is worth the time. You can stroll around, take pictures or just rest and enjoy the scene and a nice VIEW of Barcelona. Plan enough time, because there are a lot of thing to see in and around the park.

If you like to take an easy HIKE, you can walk up to the BUNKER DEL CARMEL where you have an AMAZING VIEW on the city below. From the city you can also see the TIBIDABO church with a cute amusement park located on a hill right behind the center. When you are standing on the CARRER DE BALMES or AVE. DEL TIBIDABO it's right in front of you between the buildings, pretty cool sight.

Or you can walk up the MONTJUIC or take the FUNICULAR DE MONTJUIC. Around there are also a lot of things to see, check this area out!

Barca (68).JPG

You can also do a day trip for example to GIRONA, which is a famous film location for GAME OF THRONES! And a beautiful small city.

Or a day trip to PORTAVENTURA via train with a combi ticket! That's what we did and it was aaaaaawesome! Especially the FURIOUS BACO at the end of our day, which didn't look like much but...the hell was one of the best rollercoasters I've been so far!

Other Things To Discover

The PALO ALTO MARKET only open on Saturday and Sunday is a must see! It's a little outside the city center but totally worth it.

The FOOTBALL STADION is close to MONJUIC and if you are a fan you should stop by.
